Creating Your Dream Dress
At your consultation we will discuss any ideas you may have about designs and
fabric. We will also talk about which style of dress will best be suited to
you. Once a design and fabric are chosen, a quote will be given.
If you choose to go ahead with a dress design, a pattern will be constructed
to your personal measurements and a sample will be made in calico.
At the first fitting, you will try on a sample and we will make alterations as
required. Once a sample is approved, we will make your dress in the fabric
chosen. Depending on the design we may require more than three fittings.
At the second fitting this is where you will see your dress taking shape in
the actual fabric. We will adjust your dress where needed and decide whether
anything needs to be added or taken away.
At the final fitting, we will finalise hem and make sure the adjustments are
perfect. A date will be given when the dress will be ready to take home.
When you arrive to pick up your dress, it will be completely finished and
pressed. You will be able to try on the dress to make sure everything is perfect.
We would love to see photos of your special day and if you would like to be
added to our future formal or wedding gallery, please email us a digital copy of the photos.
Everyone will also get to take home a small journal with the progress photos and information
of creating your dream dress.

How It All Started
For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with sewing. Even
when I was a young girl, I’ve always been creative with my sister’s sewing machine.
When I was in Year 12, I was looking for my dream formal dress and was unable to find it.
That’s when I decided to study design and technology as I would be able to make my formal
dress for my Year 12 major work. With our school formal less than a year away, I knew that
this was the perfect opportunity to create my one of a kind fairy princess formal dress.
I had so much fun researching, designing, sewing, fittings and looking for fabrics. I was
so excited to see my dress starting to take shape. After a lot of hard work, my dress was
complete and I was counting down the days to the formal. The formal night finally arrived
and once I put on my dress, I knew that I had achieved my dream...I felt like a Fairy Princess.
After Year 12, I bought myself a sewing machine when I started working fulltime in a retail outlet.
I really missed the whole creative process of design and sewing. I then decided to enrol into Ultimo
TAFE, Certificate 3 for Clothing Production and once I completed this course, I enrolled into the
Diploma for Clothing Production.
There were many new things to learn and I absolutely enjoyed learning everything from designing,
pattern making, garment construction and fittings. I also had fantastic work experience with a
number of Australia’s top designers. We also had the opportunity to participate in the end of
year fashion parades, where we showcased our denim range for the first year. For the second
year, we showcased group designs and individual major works. This was very exciting to see your
designs on the runway and to see how a fashion parade is set up.
Once I had finished my diploma we started working on setting up Lisa Gaye Couture as we have
had so many request for Exclusive or Made to Measure Bridal and Formal Wear.
